The FCCU Libraries Chief Librarian Mr. Farrukh Shahzad attended a three day Open ITI AOCP Experts Workshop held at University of Maryland, College Park, USA.
The workshop included the following focus areas in right to left languages scripts such as Arabic, Persian and Urdu.
1. The mechanics of encoding texts and the process of creating a digital edition (with a particular focus on multi-text editions).
2. To discuss mechanisms for the dissemination of digitally encoded texts, in ways which will allow other scholars to engage with the complexity of the textual tradition while taking account of long-term sustainability.
This is worth mentioning that the FCCU Libraries team is playing a key role in developing Urdu OCR in Nastaleeq & Nasakh fonts by producing training data and building a corpus of classical Urdu works. In this regard the Chief Librarian received a gift of a new CZUR M3000 Pro V2 scanner to further the collaboration from the Director Open Islamicate Text Initiative.
